Welcome Back, Principal Amy Smith
by Joshua Butz
Look what I have! Fresno High welcomes back Mrs. Amy Smith as the new principal. She served as a vice principal at Fresno High from 2006-2011
The new principal comes from a small family who is Fresno based. Her mother once taught at FHS in the 1960’s and then in the 1980’s . She herself attended McLane High School where she was involved in soccer, softball, leadership, forensics, and debate. Her favorite subjects In high school were math and business. Growing up, she wanted to be a business major and work in a big corporation.
Mrs. Smith was ready to leave Fresno after graduation from high school; she earned a softball scholarship, but unfortunately leaving Fresno was not in the cards. Her mother had health problems, so she stayed in town, attended Fresno State, and helped her mom. During her time at Fresno State, she decided to go back to her alma mater and assist coaching the Varsity softball team. Mrs. Smith then decided that she really enjoyed coaching and helping students, so she decided to be a teacher. She majored in Home Economics, and she minored in Math, so she could teach Sociology for Living and Math in high school.
Mrs. Smith started her teaching career at McLane high school in 1997, but once she earned her administration credential, she was hired as a Vice Principal at Fresno High school . She moved to Sunnyside High in 2012. Next, she earned a principal position at eLearn Academy for two years, and she arrived back at Fresno High this school year .
Her favorite things to do in her free time are to workout, cook, spend time with family, read, and hang out with friends. Mrs. Smith is married, and has two daughters, who are 21 and 19. She believes her best quality is getting to know and supporting people. Mrs. Smith is also very excited to be back at Fresno High.
VP Kameka Pulliam Come with Lots of Experience
by Angel Arteaga
Ms. Pulliam is the new Vice Principal here at Fresno High School. Before she came and joined the FHS, she was a vice principal at Cambridge High School, and also Edison High, where she attended high school herself. During her years attending EHS, Ms. Pulliam was involved in a whole lot of extracurricular activities, sports, and clubs.
Ms. Pulliam didn’t originally want to become a vice principal, she was aspiring to become a Federal Agent and planned to get her degree in criminology. She eventually changed course and got her credentials to become a school administrator.
The new FHS addition has a family of her own with a husband and a three-year-old son who is the “cutest little thing.” She is very excited to work at Fresno High and get to know all of her students. She is a very patient person who believes you should treat others the way you would want to be treated. Ms. Pulliman is big on respect. She wants all her students to know she is there when she is needed no matter the topic.
