Fresno High’s Fashion Show
by Kailey Espinoza
Fresno High School’s Beautify Fresno club is dedicated to always finding new resourceful ways to go green and create a clean environment for the community. This year, like many prior, they decided to host their Sustainable Beauty Fashion Show on March 18 2023 in Royce Hall. Within this fashion show, the students were eligible to design and create their own fashion piece and were able to either have another student model their piece or simply model it themselves. Each student was encouraged to use pieces of recycled equipment, like bubble wrap, bottle caps, and recycled pieces of fabric. The students involved in the fashion show were able to express their creativity using critical thinking and were given since the fall semester of the 2022-2023 academic school year to create their final pieces. As for the models, Emily Epperly, a sophomore at Fresno High School as well as a model of the winning fashion piece, expressed “I felt very happy the dress I modeled won!” While Fresno High’s first place winner, Dianna Alvarez, a senior at Fresno High states “earning first place of the Sustainable Beauty Fashion Show was such a privilege!! I enjoyed the process of transforming waste into something beautiful. I hope this year’s show has inspired others to reduce, reuse, and recycle more often.”
Lucky Spring Rally
by Bella Garcia
On a beautiful, sunny day, after countless days of overcast gloom, Fresno High held its spring rally on Friday, March 17th. The south side of campus was granted the privilege of being the first half to attend the rally.
The Spring Rally was held in Royce Hall. Fresno High decided to stray away from a long-running tradition of placing freshmen in the balcony, the “crib”, because of some misbehaviors. At the Luck of the Warriors rally, seniors were placed in the “crib”. Juniors, sophomores, and freshmen sat on the main floor. The theme for the rally was Pixar. Seniors were assigned Toy Story, Senior Story. Juniors were assigned Monster’s University, Junior’s University. Sophomores were assigned The Good Dinosaur, The Good Sophomore. Freshmen were assigned A Bug’s Life, A Frosh Life.
In good spirits of the St. Patrick’s holiday, the stage was decorated with a green backdrop curtain, green, purple, and gold balloons as well as a big gold F in the middle of the stage.
To begin the rally, ASB President Kailey Espinoza introduced the track team, who happened to be at a meet. The next sports team to be announced was Unified Basketball accompanied by Coach Sammy and Echeveste.
For some fun, leadership held a balloon game where the players try to pop their opponents’ balloons that happen to be tied around their ankles. Many students volunteered. As a surprise, leadership students hid four, four-leafed clovers underneath random seats within Royce Hall. Whoever had the luck of sitting in one of the special chairs was awarded a cute St. Patrick’s Day pin. All other game winners were awarded the same.
After the games, the remainder of the spring semester sports were announced. Kailey introduced the Badminton team alongside Coach Pempek and Ochs. Sydney introduced varsity swim and Coach Vinuela, boys’ volleyball with Coach Amador, softball with Coach Reyes, and the stunt cheer team. Boys’ tennis manager, Bailey Cota, announced the team alongside Coach Lundberg. Boys’ golf was announced by Emily Epperly and Mama B, although they were not on campus during the time of the rally. Lastly, was the baseball team alongside 200 game-winner, Coach Papi. The new and upcoming club, Ski Club was announced by Gio Ordonez with Coaches Flores and Gonzales.
After months of proposed class competitions, the rally held the first big one. 10 students from each grade were chosen to participate in a ‘chicken game’. To play the game, students passed a rubber chicken along a single, file line to the person behind them. They pass over their head, then under, in between their legs. The person at the back of the line then runs to the front. Whoever’s line is the first to rotate completely wins. Mrs. Laettner, dressed in a green wig, joined the fun. It was the juniors vs. seniors and freshmen vs. sophomores. Freshmen and juniors were the winners in the second rally.
The rally ended with a BSU Step Club performance and the Alma Mater with Ms. Laettner.
