Fall Rally
In lieu of the Summer Olympics, Fresno High planned the theme around the Olympics! On September 13th the Fall Rally kicked off in Royce Hall with a competition, the goal being passing the ball up and down your respective section based off grade. Aside from a win from the seniors in the first round at each rally the sophomores took a majority with 3 total wins in 6 rounds. This display of athleticism was enough to take gold in the fall rally Olympics. Bringing us to our next competition where coach Lumberg and coach Pedrozo faced off in a friendly match of table tennis. Prior to being manhandled, Pedrozo sprinted around the stage with patriotism on full display, the American flag a caped, and the same pattern branded across his forehead on his sweatband. The crowd was very enticed by this unlikely match up.
Throughout the rally Fresno High honored programs such as; Unified Soccer, IB Diploma Candidates, Girls Water polo, Boys’ Water polo, Cross Country, Varsity Volleyball, and Varsity Football. Dance club was honored however it was presented by a Performance lead By Darrell Austin. Afterwards the Homecoming theme was revealed by a trailer put together by the ASB “Warriors, game on.” As per usual the rally was concluded with the Alma Matter. Ricardo Lopez offered is thoughts afterwards “The best part about it was the table tennis match. I was pretty hyped the homecoming reveal too though.”
Bright lights
On September 27, Fresno High played one of the most important games of the year (at least for the student body.) Students have an excuse to go the extra mile showing school spirit. Instead of using the same purple and yellow, students will show spirit using neon of any kind. Many elected to use paint or wear highlighted construction vests. Students lined the stands with shades of green, pink, purple, and orange.
The game started later than usual due to McLane’s Homecoming celebrations. By 7:30 it was kick off and school spirit was in full swing. Fresno High started with the ball and punted into the opening possession leading to a big defensive stop. To maintain the energy, Ian Owdom delivered a halftime speech at the discretion of the Fresno High ASB.
A night of injuries made it an uphill battle, leading to a final score of 56-0. Multiple concussions and other various injuries riddled the roster. Murphy Leech said, “A lot of guys didn’t get to perform this week, but we are gonna bounce back against Hoover next week. GO WARRIORS!”
The Little Big Pig Game
By Hugo Meza
The Football Pig Game is an old and friendly annual tradition between rival high schools, Fresno High and Roosevelt High. The winner of the football game gets to take the Pig “home” and celebrate their win for the year.
On November 1, 2024, Fresno High and Roosevelt High had their 95th annual Pig Game at Ratcliffe Stadium. At this game Roosevelt High was defending the Pig Trophy and Fresno High was trying to take the Pig Trophy.
The principal of Roosevelt High School, Mr. Michael Allen, showed respect and appreciation for the game by saying, “This is one of the greatest showcases of the city for both schools. We are happy that it is a great and friendly rivalry.”
Likewise, the principal of Fresno High School, Amy Smith, also said, “The Pig Game is one of the best long standing and energetic rivalries in Fresno. The history behind this is incredible and the amount of memories made are amazing.”
Before the game, sophomore Kadin Allen predicted, “We are going to be in the lead, then Roosevelt is going to come back, but then we are going to get a game winning touchdown and win the pig back.”
Roosevelt won the 95th annual Pig Game, the score was 54-12. Regardless of Roosevelt winning, the crowd was very enthusiastic and cheering for our football team all night.
