The Love is Love Dance

by Cadence Allen- Entertainment Editor

The Love is Love dance was not just a Fresno High dance, but a Fresno District dance for high school GSA clubs. GSA is a club at most Fresno District high schools. This dance was designed to create a welcoming environment for LGBTQ+ students where they can express themselves freely without fear of judgement. Ms. Schimmel and Mr. Beck, the Fresno High GSA advisors, gave permission slips and guest passes to interested students starting January 29 and they were due on February 7. After being turned in, students were given their tickets free of charge and the dance took place on February 9 at Patino High from 7:00pm to 9:30pm.

The dance included a variety of free merchandise and activities. Upon arrival, each student was given a name tag attached to a GSA lanyard they get to keep, as well as a raffle ticket. There were ten raffle winners and the prizes included various GSA merchandise. After the raffle, the hosts coordinated a runway that allowed every student the opportunity to show off their formal attire.

The dance included a photobooth that was active throughout the event, indoor and outdoor sitting, and a large dance floor with a DJ. Every student was served three slices of pizza and one slice of cake. They also got a GSA water bottle as a souvenir to remember the Love is Love dance.

The Fresno High Band

by Vanessa Flores

The Fresno High Marching Band and Color Guard consist of dedicated and proud individuals who work diligently under the leadership of their instructor, Mr. Reynolds. They are required to maintain standards of punctuality, readiness, positive attitudes, honest effort, and pride in their work to achieve success during rehearsals, practices, and various events. Throughout the year, they follow a rigorous schedule, participating in school and community events.

During the first half of the year's marching season, they demonstrate their skills at a range of events such as local parades, FHS Varsity football games, rallies, historical home tours, competitions, baseball games, and concerts. They also contribute to fundraising activities coordinated by their booster club. Despite their busy schedule, the band excels in parade and field competitions, except for the Big Fresno Fair Band Review.

In the second half of the year or concert season, they engage in events like move-up days, festivals at neighboring high schools, Regional Band Day, rallies, park openings, their Spring concert, hosting the CMEA middle school band festival, and participating in IDEA FEST for the first time. The band prepares for the "Trills and Thrills" music festival at Universal Studios and the FHS Class of 2024 graduation ceremony in June.

Welcoming next year's Freshmen!

by Cadence Allen- Entertainment Editor

On February 6 and February 15, Fresno High School hosted Middle School Move Up. Middle School Move Up are days in which middle schoolers from Fort Miller Middle School, Hamilton and Cooper academy come to Fresno High from 9:00 – 12:00 and get introduced to some of the programs we have to offer. These events require a great deal of effort from all staff and students.

Fresno High students from a multitude of programs, classes and clubs performed and communicated the synopsis of the program to the future freshmen in hopes of recruitment. This included theater, multimedia, JROTC, band, and many others. Leadership students take groups a middle schoolers to the various programs for 4 periods of 45 minutes each. Middle schoolers got to view some of the classrooms and see performances in the gym.

This helps the middle schoolers get a head start and decide what electives and clubs they want to participate in. “Middle School Move Up was a great success as it introduced different career classes many students may not be aware of,” says Aaron Belt, one of the Leadership students at Fresno High.
