Prom Royalty

At Fresno High School, the 2024 Prom “Old Hollywood” took place on April 27 and lasted from 7 to 10 pm. The tickets were sold April 15-26 and were $50 each. There was no dinner provided at the event but there were snacks. Roughly 400 people attended.
The Prom royalty duo announced was Destiny Edwards and Wilem Salkin. Destiny did not expect to win, as she asked Ms. Sciacqua to be nominated and didn’t think anything would come of it. “After high school, I would like to attend college to major in Biomedical Science in hopes to be a cardiologist,” she shared.
For Wilem, he nominated himself, kind of throwing himself on the ballot. He didn’t actively campaign to be royalty, but he made a flyer to represent himself. When he won, he thought it was a cool accomplishment. He was happy that he got a fancy crown and said that highlight of his night was afterwards when he “got to take pictures with his friends.”
And the Oscar goes to…

Prom, formally known as promenade, is a night to encourage social decorum and graces in each graduating class. The event is for teenagers to dress up, have fun, and celebrate their accomplishments. Prom is typically held at the end of the school year for upperclassmen. Underclassmen can attend the occasion if invited by an upperclassman.
To attend Fresno High’s Prom, you had to have a decent attendance rate and a signed permission slip from the librarian and your guardian. If your attendance was poor and you still wanted to attend, you had to make up absences and get signed off by the vice principal. Those from other schools who’ve been invited by Fresno High students can attend as long as they get signed off by their school and parents as well. The tickets were $50 and closer to the function they were sold for $55.
The 2024 Senior and Junior Prom took place at the Baker’s Ballroom in downtown Fresno, 1060 Fulton Street. It was Saturday night April 27, from 7pm to 10 pm. The theme was “A Night in Old Hollywood.” There was a DJ, snacks, a photo station, some staff to chaperone, and dancing the entire time. An experience to remember.
Faculty had fun too!
