Open House Meets Regional Night

by Kiana Jones

The most recent open house at Fresno High, held on April 8, 2024, broke tradition in a significant way. It was unconventional, lacking organization and communication, leading to confusion among most Fresno High staff. Rather than a typical open house, it resembled an awards ceremony, featuring unique activities such as recognizing elementary students, allowing middle schoolers to explore clubs and sports, and showcasing performances by Folklorico and cheer teams from various schools.

Elementary schools in the Fresno Unified School District participated in an awards ceremony honoring academic achievements and character excellence. The district transported families to Warrior Park in front of Royce Hall for this event. Amidst the award presentations, there were captivating performances by cheer and Folklorico teams, including Fresno High's own. Surrounding Warrior Park, teachers, clubs, and sports teams set up booths. Parents could engage with teachers to discuss their children, while sports and clubs showcased their activities and sold snacks to support the school's fundraising efforts.

The 2024 Open House at Fresno High primarily centered on elementary students, their awards, and performances, neglecting the opportunity for Fresno High students and teachers to showcase their accomplishments, behavior, and classroom work. This bustling and unexpected event left both staff and students surprised.

CTE Students at Santa Cruz Boardwalk

By: Cadence Allen- Entertainment Editor

On February 26, 2024, several classes in the CTE building took a field trip to the Santa Cruz Boardwalk. The trip was organized by Ms. Shabazz and the classes included Construction, Muti-Media, General Internship, and IB Film II.

Students boarded the busses Friday morning at 6:15am and returned home at 7pm. They had about six hours to ride attractions, play games, and eat boardwalk food to celebrate their success in their class. The trip was completely free and school breakfast and lunch were provided but all purchases at the boardwalk were not covered.

There were some scheduling errors, so some classes had to join together for this field trip but overall, it was a success. “It was a well-deserved retreat,” said Diego Avila, an IB Film II student.
