End of the Season Comes Early for Warrior Football

by Jazzy Alvarado

Like all other sports, football was uncertain about what their season would look like. However, the coaches moved forward, preparing for a regular season. The football team practiced all summer and started playing games in September. With COVID-19 being an ongoing issue, it was hard to get two full teams together, so the 2021-2022 season featured only Varsity.

Sadly, the season was cut short, right before the beloved Little Big Pig Game.

A positive COVID test cost the team their chance to win the Pig back from Roosevelt High School. In order to advance to playoffs, the team would have had to win half their games and when Little Big Pig was cancelled, it ended the team’s chance to do so.

The football team knew that a positive test would negatively affect their season. Their season finished so close to the end, but they persevered as best they could. COVID is something that remains an uncertainty, but everyone has adapted, as this is the new normal. On a positive note, senior David Delacruz was happy to share that the best part of being on the team was “being able to play with my brother and being able to be starter in both offense and defense.”
