HOMECOMING SKITS
By Angel Arteaga
On Friday September 8, 2023, Fresno High School had their annual Homecoming Game at McLane stadium. Once, Hoco featured real floats like in a parade, but now, because of restrictions due to the all-weather track, only skits are allowed. Still, float or skit, every class creates a skit and performs in front of the stadium crowd. This year’s theme was “Warriors go to the Cinema.” The parade happens in between the JV and Varsity game.
The parade started with JROTC, a performance from BSU Dance Club, and the freshmen (Class of 2027) presented their entry Mario and Luigi. They had a pun on the name Super Mario Brothers and turned it into Super Freshmen. Once they finished waving and saying their hellos to the crowd, the sophomores (Class of 2026) presented their banner and skit. Three students got into children’s cars are raced. Their skit was based on Fast and the Furious. After the sophomores were done, the juniors (Class of 2025) came out and continued the parade. They performed a skit based on Jurassic Park, where the juniors were in a car and being chased by dinosaurs. They called it Jurassic Juniors. To finish off these skits, the seniors (Class of 2024) based their entry and performance on the new and popular Barbie movie. “Seniors Life in the Dream House” had students dressed as Barbies and Kens, performing not one but two big dance numbers that were in the movie, Dua Lipa’s “Dance the Night,” focusing on the “Barbies” and “Just Ken,” allowing the “Kens” to shine. Principal Smith made a quick cameo as “Teacher Barbie” before linking arms with the seniors and sashaying off the field.
With their fun and creative dance routines, the winner of the skits was the Class of 2024, Seniors Life in the Dreamhouse. One of the “Kens,” Juan Lucatero said that he was a bit surprised when he found out that his class had won since the performance was nerve racking, but overall, he was filled with accomplishment and happiness from this news.
