Holiday Home Tour

by Vanessa Flores

The Fresno High Holiday Home Tours, a yearly event that occurs during the first week of December, offers the Fresno community an opportunity to tour homes and buildings in the Fresno High neighborhood.

For the past two years, Royce Hall and the CTE Building on the Fresno High School campus have been included in those tours. This year's Holiday Home Tour marked its 27th year and took place on December 4 in four different locations, including the Shrine of St. Therese. Tickets were marketed for $30 each, and the tour encompassed homes located in the FHS neighborhood.

The Routt Home on 1021 E. Cambridge was accompanied by the Fresno High Marching Band playing festive tunes under the direction of Mr. Corey Reynolds. The Deil Home on 2906 N. Van Ness Ave. was accompanied by music from the Fresno High Orchestra, directed by Mrs. Beverly Morehead. The other two home tours were on 233 E. Cornell Ave. and 402 E. Harvard Ave, while the tour of the Shrine of Therese was on 855 E. Floradora Ave.

The event at all five locations took place from 5:30 pm to 8:30 pm.

Club House: BSU

by Joshua Butz

The Black Student Union (BSU) is all about encouraging future black leaders and helping them succeed. The purpose of BSU is to promote a sense of belonging and identification to create unity, as well as to alleviate a sense of isolation and to provide cultural awareness to the student population. BSU is run by Mr. Kevin Bugg, he is the advisor of the club and teaches biology on campus. The co-advisor of BSU is Mr. Hopkinson, a math teacher. The goals and objectives of the club are to build leadership and social skills for the members of the organization. They want to educate through discussion on important issues pertaining to relevant affairs. They foster an atmosphere for the interaction and unity of African American students here at FHS.

They develop programs and activities that enhance public awareness of African Americans and their accomplishments in the global community. BSU makes a difference in the community through volunteer work, fundraising, or awareness campaigns. The club contributes to social causes and creates a sense of purpose and fulfillment among members. BSU does field trips, movie nights, game nights, barbeques, and connects with other black student unions across Fresno/Clovis Unified. BSU helps to improve school culture by participating in assemblies with their Step and BSU Dance teams.

Students come to BSU to feel they belong to a community. It’s a space for positive interaction, safety among people with shared experiences, and peer support.

Fresno High's Warrior Marching Band Concert: A Festive Night of Music and Giving

by Betzabel Macedo

On December 14, the Fresno High School Warrior Marching Band held a concert featuring a variety of genres, ranging from jazz to holiday favorites. The event kicked off with a dinner in the cafeteria at 5:30 pm, where the band treated the audience to a range of desserts. The band also encouraged guests to bring canned foods, which were collected for donations. The jazz band portion of the concert included lively performances of "Buffalo Head," "Rock Bottom," "Sesame Street Theme," and "Uncle Milo's Slide Show." Meanwhile, the concert band played "Mustang," selections from "The Music Man," and classic holiday tunes, such as "Sleigh Ride" and "How the Grinch Stole Christmas." The evening wrapped up with attendees returning to the cafeteria to finish any remaining dinner entrees.
