A Need for Speed
On Wednesday, March 15, Fresno High’s boys and girls track, and field team hosted their first home meet at Sunnyside High School. The team arrived at 12:30 pm to set up and warm up. The Field events: pole vault, long jump, triple jump, high jump, discus, and shot put started at 2:30 pm, with races starting at 3 pm. The girls started every event and then the boys followed.
Track and Field is a sport that consists of running, jumping, and throwing skills. It is a sport based on athletic contests and has become a lifestyle for these Warriors. “Life is like a high jump bar if you want to succeed, you’re going to have to find a way to get over it,” said Jermaine Schexnayder.
For the girls’ varsity long jump, Jasmine Sierra tied for second jumping 3’4.5 feet. “It’s all mental when it comes to track and field you can train your body but if you aren’t mentally strong enough to push through it’s worth less,” said Jasmine.
In the boy’s high jump event, Jermaine jumped 5’10 and took first place. He also succeeded in the boys’ Varsity Triple Jump where he jumped 38’5.5 feet taking first. Jeremiah Colasanti took first place in the varsity discus with 99’4 feet, a PR (personal record). He did not stop there as he finished in fourth for the varsity shot put with 31’ 8.25 feet, another PR.
The girls’ 4x100 consisted of Kassandra Diaz, Melody Valenzuela, Taryn Jackson, and Makiria Thomson with a time of 55.02. They took first place. “I feel very passionate about Track, it’s something I’ve always enjoyed, and I love the people on my team,” said Kassandra Diaz.
Although it is hard to catch a track and field meet at Fresno High, their season is long, from March 3 and May 27, so there is still time to support your fellow Warriors at a rival school.

By: Joshua Butz
The Tennis team at Fresno high played against schools like Sunnyside, Roosevelt, Hoover. Their record here at Fresno high is 8-6. The tennis team ended their season with a win. The team mostly focuses on playing one another at Practice to improve their overall skill. Their team mostly gets along with each other and encourages each other to be better.
When the team loses games, they reflect on what they could have done better and work specifically on the thing that messed them up. Edgar Gonzales who is Part of the FHS tennis team said, Tennis is very Fun sport and He think everyone should try it out. He started Playing Tennis because it looked fun.
Lucas Silva is another player part of the FHS tennis team. They also get taught at practice. to have a great mindset and to keep your mind on the game to not get distracted and to be patient. Whenever The team loses a game, they fix those mistakes they made in the game, in practice. They also try to fix those errors that were made in the game I practice. There is also good communication and feedback.
