And the Winners are…

by Catherine Spears

On September 23rd at McLane Stadium, during halftime of the Homecoming Game, Rachel Azua and Mason Gagliano-Bingham were announced as the winners of the 2022 Homecoming Senior Royalty.

Mason stated that he didn’t want the title but was encouraged by his friends to do it. On the day, Mason said it took him only 15 min to get ready and he said that he wore his everyday school clothes— pants, shirts, and tennis shoes. Isaiah, the friend who had encouraged him, was Mason’s escort for the special day; they have been friends since last year. His favorite moment of the evening was having his name announced, even though he was sure he had lost. After this very exciting win, Mason hung out with friends and went home to eat dinner with his mother and tell her the good news.

Rachel Azua has wanted to run for Homecoming Royalty since her freshman year. On the day of Homecoming, it took Rachel an hour and a half to get ready. She wore a black dress. Her mother and father were her escorts for the special day. Rachel’s favorite moment was when the crowd was yelling her name. She didn’t believe she would win, and she was shocked when her name was announced. After the win, Rachel and her friend went out to eat.
