Back to School Night
by Kailey Espinoza
On August 31, 2022, Fresno High had its first event of the new school year. Held in Warrior Park, Back to School Night, hosted over 400 guests.
JROTC, the Warrior Band, Color Guard, Cheer, and Folklorico performed. There were many foods stands and trucks. Free fajita plates were served to the first 200 guests, and water bottles given out, a taco truck, a hamburger stand, Sno Café, and the Fresno High Cross Country team serving Aguas Frescas as their fundraiser, they had every drink imaginable. The money they raised for this fundraiser was to pay for a specific trip to Mt. Sac. They would be able to attend a meet with schools from all over the state and widen their horizons for a greater fulfilling experience in cross country.
This back to school night event gave many vendors an opportunity to promote their clubs and services. The vendors ranged from the Army National Guard, the Army ROTC, The Know More, the Fresno EOC LGBTQ Resource center; all youth support groups, job development, and the Orchestra club! Each looking to recruit and spread their message. All of these vendors ranged from a wide variety of opportunities, there was a group for everyone! “It was a successful night,” said Leadership director Mrs. Melissa Bangerter.

Minga’s Big Introduction
by Izzy Magee
Minga, an app made to inform students of major events/ promote school activities, share school related pictures and videos, and to all around help students feel more involved and to “inspire engagement.”
Minga made its big introduction to Fresno High with its ID card feature- letting students have access to their ID card just by a push of a button (or two). “Minga is a better way to connect your school community,” claims Change Gamers Inc., but the students of Fresno High have a lot more mixed opinions.
The idea of not having the chance to get a physical ID for this 2022-2023 school year disappoints many students. “I’m very disappointed to hear about not getting a real ID. Not only is the ID on the app, but everything is suddenly online now. Yeah, some students might not care, but I bet there’s a lot of students who can’t access the app because they don’t have a phone. I think people really don’t understand how important an ID badge is- especially when you can’t access it,” said junior Mireya Ruiz.
The company that created the app, Minga, states that “we provide all the tools needed to increase student engagement and be a digital home for your entire campus community.” Some features might include, digital student IDs, digital hall passes, and PBIS and tracking. The PBIS badge shows its importance with the benefits it has for students who are in the CART (Center for Advanced Research & Technology) program.
The app also supplies an extracurricular calendar- which is used to manage, and organize student clubs, athletics, and other after school activities. They are also adopting the new ‘Digital Hall Pass’ feature, said that schools can use the M-Pass (the hall pass tool) to eliminate students from vaping, vandalism, and messing around in general.
To ease the tension of the new introduction of Minga, Mrs. Bangerter, the Leadership teacher at FHS, shared about how helpful the app is for students. “Students are more likely to lose their ID badges than their phones. A phone is something that is by your side all-of-the time.” She mentioned that an ID badge can be printed out for a student if they don’t have a phone.
God Save the Queen
by Erika Hernandez
Queen Elizabeth’s II passed away September 8, 2022- she was 96 when she died. The new king is King Charles III, her son. Her death set in motion a governmental apparatus that had been dormant for 70 years. Britain handled Queen Elizabeth’s death as “operation London Bridge.”
On Monday Sept. 9, at 1 pm local time Friday in London, two 96-round gun salutes were fired in honor of the queen at the Tower of London and Hyde Park, one round for every year of her reign. On September 19, there was a state funeral service at Westminster Abbey, which caused a two-minute silence to be observed in the United Kingdom. A funeral service will then be held in St. George’s Chapel at Windsor Castle before her casket is brought there. The queen was laid to rest on the grounds of the palace next to her late husband, Prince Philip, who passed away in April 2021.
Queen Elizabeth has marked many milestones, from being the first British monarch to be added the congress to being the second longest ruling monarch. Queen Elizabeth II left us as a proud role model for many other female leaders. Her honorable work has inspired many other bright women. The queen did in fact make a difference on these women she was most likely someone who doubted by multiple male figures but in the end, she proved a man wrong and proved women are capable of the strongest battles.
