Treelighting… Come Rain or Shine
by Mariah Andersen-Price
The flyer read: “Fresno High’s Tree Lighting Ceremony will be held rain or shine.” And rain it did.
On December 1, Fresno received a blustery .64 downpour as Fresno High staff, students, and community gathered to enjoy some holiday spirit and entertainment.
This annual tradition was centered in Royce Hall with the presence of the Fresno High Marching Band, Choir, and Orchestra, playing and singing holiday tunes, as well as a performance from the Cheer seniors. In the Library, there was even a special guest, Santa Claus! There was also cookie decorating. By the large northside tree, Latino Interact was selling Mexican Hot Chocolate for $2 and the Class of 2024 was selling ReindeerGrams for $1, as well.
Though the crowds thinned at 6:30 for the actual outdoor tree lighting by Santa because of the weather, it was still a memorable event since it was the first time since Covid the ceremony had been held in person.
Outside, Latino Interact and the Class of 2024 braved the elements selling Mexican hot chocolate and Reindeer-Grams, as they doggedly earned money for field trips, Gala, and Prom.
