Mrs. Chie Moua is currently a counselor for Fresno High’s freshmen and juniors. When she heard of an opening at Fresno High in 2012, she applied, and she got in on her first try. During her time at Fresno High, her favorite thing about being a counselor has been seeing growth in her students and their success after they move on from high school. She is happy when students share their college experience, how they have accomplished their degree and entered their career of choice and hearing that the education they received at Fresno High set them up to be successful in college. She finds that the most stressful part of her job is seeing kids not in class when they should be. Her advice for students is, “High school is going to go by really fast, and they should take advantage of all the free opportunities that are available for students so they will be successful once they graduate. When she was younger, she wanted to be a psychiatrist when she grew up, which reflects her best quality: her approach to life. She hopes that if any student needs an adult to turn to, she can be there for them.

Ms. Maribel Trevino is a woman of very few words. wanted to grow up to be a businessperson. Ms. Trevino came to work at Fresno High School by Fresno Unified transferring her here. She thinks that her best quality is her ability to overcome the toughest challenges. She wants everyone to know that High School is what you make it. You own your happiness and success. She loves to counsel at Fresno High and help the kids out when they need it most.

Mrs. Gina Sandoval is a counselor at Fresno High School and her grade levels are 12th grade students with last names A-F and 10th grade students with last names A-G. Although she is now a counselor, she originally wanted to own her own business and live in a big city when she was younger. Her course changed when she became a mom at a young age and grew appreciative of the support system she had in college. Sandoval began working as a school social worker at Edison High School and later transferred to Fresno High in November of 2006 when a counseling position became available.

Sandoval’s favorite thing about working here is the student’s and the staff and how diverse and generally caring everyone is. She believes everyone is accepting of differences and that our staff is very supportive. Mrs. Sandoval believes her best qualities as a counselor are being highly organized, paying attention to detail and that she generally cares. Sandoval also says that since she’s a mom, she’s considerate of what her student’s moms would want. With all the experience Sandoval has had she says, “My one piece of advice to any student is take advantage of all the help and resources available, to go to your classes, and to have a support system at school.”

Mrs. Yadira Castro is the new counselor on campus. She was brought in with a program that Fresno Unified put in place. Growing up, she wanted to be a cop until she had a dream that she was shot in the line of duty. Her favorite thing about her job is having parents understand what they must do to help their kids in school. The most frustrating thing about her job is when kids don’t ask for help. Her best quality is multitasking. A piece of advice she would give to every student is to use the tools that are giving to you there are so many resources to get whether that be a scholarship or FAFSA She is excited to be here and will be here for many years to come.nzalez

She is also worried that she is not doing enough for her students. One of her many great qualities is that she is always willing to learn. The best advice that Ms. Chang is: “To always ask for help when you need help because if you don’t the answer will always be no.”

Mr. Boun Xiong had a passion for wanting to be an Aerospace engineer. One time, as a child, he saw one of the helicopters that influenced him to know more about Aerospace engineering. How he came to Fresno High is that he saw Fresno was hiring counselors and he saw most students had the same background as him. His favorite thing about working at Fresno High is being able to get to know many different students and seeing students overcoming challenges. One of the most frustrating parts about his job is that of kids not being able to graduate on time. His greatest quality is that of his love and passion for his job and the other counselors he works with as well, he is also very caring and has a great amount of patience. His best piece of advice for students is: "Don't give up easily.”
